Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (AF)

Mangalore, Jan 7: CPI (M) state committee secretary G N Nagaraj has said that the growth of fundamental organizations in the region is a direct result of rise in Naxalism.

Addressing a district-level convention of CPI (M) party workers held at Kolya here on Sunday January 6, Nagaraj cautioned that Naxalism is boosting the growth of Muslim and Hindu fundamental organizations which is proving fatal to democracy.

He accused the BJP of playing communal politics and said that it was trying to come to power in the state by means of land mafia, mines mafia and money. He further said that the fall of state government was a result of battle among BJP, JD (S) and Congress for key posts and alleged that none of the three parties was concerned about the welfare of the people.

Speaking on the occasion, former MLA Srirama Reddy attacked the union agriculture ministry and said that though the 10th five-year plan focusses on agriculture, the fact is that 1.50 lac farmers have committed suicide in the country during 1994-2007.

Reddy also expressed CPI (M)'s opposition to India's nuclear deal with the US.

Among those present were party leaders Abraham Karkada, B Madhava and K R Sriyan.
