Udupi, Dec 7: The twelfth annual day celebration of G M Vidyaniketan Public School was held on December 2 and 3 at GM Kala Manch of G M Vidyaniketan Public school Brahmavar.

Chief guest of the function, Vanitha N Thorvi, member of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights talking on the occasion said, "The city attracts her often because of the love and great affection with the people here. Educational institutions are nurturing not just students, but young lives. Teachers are the real builders of a better society. The parent must not restrict the child only to study, but also get them involved in curricular activities. Parents play a vital role in building the future of the child. Each child is special and has its own potential."

“The commission is working towards readmitting children who have dropped out back to school. For many years women and children in the country have been harassed, but now the picture has changed. The world is looking at India," she added.

The director of Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte, professor K Sankaran, addressing the parents and the children on the occasion said, “Children should choose five things namely, curiosity over clarity, diversity over uniformity, passion over discipline, honour over success and humanity over technology.”

He explained, ”Technology has no end, if so, then it is fatal. Technology cannot replace love and compassion. There should be passion over decline and discipline and freedom are the two faces of the same coin. The more discipline we have, the more freedom we will receive. Success has no proper definition as it all depends on how one defines it. Every so called success can be challenged.”

“All of us must help students to retreat into themselves and let the students to define what success is. Parents must let children be individual and autonomous and not look over their shoulder to see what the other is doing," he concluded.

Sri Vidyadeesha Teertha Sripada of Sri Palimaru Matha Udupi, delivered a speech and blessed the children.

Prakashchandra Shetty, chairman and managing trustee of GM Education Trust in his presidential address said, "Teachers are the real builders of a good society here in our school. Nearly 3000 students pursue education and 290 teachers, non-teaching staff render their service.”

In his speech he did not forget to thank the teachers and the parents for their immense support.

The kids were colourfully dressed up and performed dances.

Parents and the well-wishers who turned up in great numbers enjoyed every bit of the programme and carried home the precise message of respecting women and girl children.

There were three sessions organized to showcase the talents of the students. The respective classes performed dances which were choreographed under the guidance of class teachers.

Brahmachari K N, principal of the school delivered the keynote. Tara Prakashchandra Shetty, Pranav Shetty, Venugopal, Devaki G president, PTA, Raghav Shetty, vice president of PTA, parents and well-wishers of the school were present on the occasion.
