Pliskova, Cornet to compete for Brisbane Open title


Brisbane, Jan 7 (IANS): Czech Karolina Pliskova stormed into the final of the Brisbane International tennis tournament here, where she will face French Alize Cornet.

Pliskova, world no. 6 and third seed, defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, world no. 14 and sixth seed, in the semifinal 6-2, 6-4 in 64 minutes on Friday, reports Efe.

Svitolina reached the semis after defeating world No. 1 and top seed, German Angelique Kerber.

Pliskova will fight for the title against Cornet, world No. 41, who reached the final after the withdrawal of her opponent, Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza, 28 minutes into the semi-final match.
