One vehicle, 195 violations! This car in Bengaluru breaks traffic rules with impunity

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jan 9: If there was a prize for vehicles which violate parking rules maximum number of times and continue to move ahead with the offence without bothering to pay the fine, this vehicle would have won it hands down. A car from the city bearing registration number KA02 - MF5728 takes the cake for parking in no-parking zones and violating other rules for 195 times and is still continuing with the same violation time and again without paying penalty or suffering punishment.

The car in question is registered in the name of Mahalakshmi M Santosh. As per traffic police records, this car was officially found breaking traffic rules an astounding 195 times!

This is not the isolated case. Close on its heels is a car bearing registration number KA05 - MF 3310 standing in the name of Raju Gujar, which has violated parking rules 173 times. The third spot is taken by a car bearing No. KA05 - MB 7901 standing in the name of Jitendra Kurel, with 163 violations.

The offending car in the top of the list stands registered in the regional transport office (west) in the city. The owner of this car is liable to pay Rs 19,500 to the department. The car belonging to Raju too is registered in the RTO (west) office. This car was found parked on footpath four times out of 163 violations.

The traffic police have uploaded a list of nearly 500 vehicles which have violated traffic and parking rules. In many cases, owners themselves blatantly violated the rules but failed to pay penalty. Traffic police said they contemplate taking other measures against the offenders if they continue to dither from paying the fines.

Some people feel that the owners of the vehicles enlisted may not be aware of the violations and in some cases, because of shifting of residence, notices might not have reached them. There are also occasions in which vehicles are sold but the buyers are yet to get the vehicle ownership transferred in their names.

At present, penalties for traffic violations is simply too meagre, to cause any fear in the minds of the culprits. The rules/amount of penalties payable were perhaps framed during the British rule, which need a quick & heavy upward revision.

The punishment for violations should be such, that the vehicle (along with the driver) have to be impounded/arrested, and not only the RC of the vehicle is to be suspended/cancelled, but also, the same punishment is to be extended to the driver of the vehicle, as is being done in most of the countries (regardless of the position held/influence being exercised by the errant driver).

The idea of higher fines is very good. But chances of misusing is more the reason is our police are corrupt and the chances of bribe in order to save higher fine . The police and the driver will be happy.

In gulf countries like UAE, over speeding and wrong parking fine is Dhs 600/ (Rs 10,000). They would impound the car for greater violation by leaving the car in open ground and also keeping the windows open. The car will be full of dust. Even black points for more than three violations. In US and Canada, if driver and co-passenger are without seat belt, the fine is $150.

I agree with Alex. Levy a penaly of 5,000 Rs for 3rd time offender and may be 1 lakh for 10th time. Check if he has courage still to flout rule??? If black point system on repeated offender to suspend driving license or car registration...it may work even better!!

these owners are deliberately flouting the law - impound the vehicles to make them come to their senses. Utter irresponsibility - first in violating laws, next in not paying up. These are people who feel they are 'entitled' to privilege, not 'responsible' to follow rules

Penalty should be at least 10 times more for this act...

I would like to make a request to RTO through this news article that, all private / public buses including city buses to stop the music in the buses as the most of buses having broken sound boxes under the seats and with very loud noise. I think in this modern era no one wanted music in the buses.

I was travelling from Moodbidri to Mangalore, one old sick person sitting beside me, was travelling to Mangalore for his medical checkup and irritated with loud music and requested conductor to stop the music but he was very arrogant and did not stop the music and until Mangalore that guy was closing his ears and travelled.

This music not only irritating the sick and old but also younger generations. I wish through Daijiworld to bring into RTO notice.

Hoping that people support this cause.

195 citations and just Rs 19500, which is Rs 100.

So low penalty makes the driver to break the rules without any consequence.

Other countries the minimum average penalty is Rs 1000.

In USA it is Rs 5000, which is to be paid within a week, else multiplies every week thereafter.
