Mangaluru, Jan 27: A young woman breathed her last on the night of Thursday January 26, after taking treatment for honey bee bite for over a month in a hospital in Deralakatte.

Leelavathi (35) is the person deceased. Her mother Kamala (65) too had died due to bee attack last month. Mother and daughter both were attacked by honey bees on the same day.

Leelavathi

On December 8, Kamala had come to her daughter Leelavathi’s house at Pilar near Ullal. Kamala and Leelavathi’s mother-in-law Janaki went to the nearest forest to fetch firewood. When honey bees attacked them, they shouted for help. Leelavathi went to help her mother and mother-in-law. But she also experienced honey bee attack. Leelavathi’s husband Sridhar, who came to the place, took all three women to the hospital and admitted them there.

Kamala died on the same day at the hospital while daughter Leelavathi followed her after 7 weeks when the treatment failed to save her.

It is said that Sridhar too was attacked by bees. He and his mother Janaki recovered later.

In case of honey bee attack try to see if you can create fire/smoke. That will certainly disperse/kill bees. You can also take shelter in something that can be completely closed like a car and a room.

Please hear Modi's call and give up your LPG subsidy so that these poor women need NOT go to forests to take firewood, instead can have LPG gas stoves.....These incidents prove this point, India needs freedom from firewood and choolas

It is unfortunate incident. Honey Bees would have been disturbed or otherwise they don't attack normally. RIP to the deceased.
