Mangalore, Mar 10: Tension prevailed at the Colaco School Nursing College premises on Monday, March 10, when the parents of the students studying there laid siege on the Institute.
The parents alleged that the SSLC and II PUC original marks cards of over 90 students studying there have gone missing . They further accused the management of being involved in selling these certificates in exchange for money. They also threatened that the siege will not be withdrawn until the management returns the original certificates.
When the students asked for their original certificates back, the management did not give them the satisfactory explanation as to why they were withheld. Instead , the students have accused the management of threatening them . They also warned the students that they would hold their exam hall tickets. if they approached the media.
Answering to the questions of the protestors, trustee Treeza said, “ a certain Dr K K Varghese, who was the previous administrator of the college had stolen all these certificates. ” A complaint was lodged against him later at the Kadri police station. But the protestors insisted that the management was also involved in this certificate theft .
Speaking to the media, Stany Alvares, one of the protestors, said that the management had earlier insulted him when he asked them for the certificates . He also reiterated saying that the management had threatened the students of dire consequences if they continued to demand their original certificates back.
Kadri station police rushed to spot and calmed the protestors with assurance calling Dr K K Varghese to the police station for questioning. Later in the evening Dr K K Varghese paid a visit to the Kadri police station and denied all allegations made against him by Treeza and Navin. Speaking to the media , Dr Varghese said that he was not heading the Nursing School since many years but only heading the hospital. He said that there was no possibility of him stealing the certificates.
In a counter attack, Dr Varghese said that the Administrative Medical Officer (AMO) Dr Navin was the Public Relation Officer under him for many years and was not a qualified doctor. After his resignation, Navin suddenly claimed himself to be a 'doctor.' “How is it possible to become a doctor within few months ? “ questioned Dr Varghese . He said that the Colaco Nursing school management has made him a scapegoat .
Dr Varghese in a counter attack lashed at Navin accusing him of misusing the certificates. It must be recalled that some fake certificate rackets were busted in the city by the police .
But the innocent students are suffering in these blame games . With patience running out, the students have given the management an ultimatum of 24 hours to return their original certificates failing which they would intensify their protest in front of the Colaco Hospital.
