Putin wants Russian National Guard for FIFA World Cup security

Moscow, Mar 28 (IANS): President Vladimir Putin has called on the Russian National Guard to ensure security at the 2018 football World Cup in Russia.

"Work on ensuring security at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup and Confederations Cup will require much effort," Putin said on Monday at a meeting with the Russian Guard's command, reports Tass news agency.

He asked the Russian Guard to "pay special attention to that".

The President noted that the formation of the Russian Guard is proceeding dynamically and in compliance with the schedule.

"The new federal agency is being formed in compliance with the schedule. I would like to thank you for that. Work goes on in due pace and with due quality," he said.

Putin congratulated the Russian Guard's senior officers on their professional holiday, the National Guard Troops Day.
