Kundapur, Mar 31: Discussions on funds toward development of crematorium in Babbukudru and night shelter for migrant workers were discussed at the general meeting of the town municipal council on Thursday March 30.

Hundreds of migrant workers are staying at the school next to Nehru maidan and government building at nights and they do not give importance to cleanliness. The council president said that Kundapur sub-divisional official Shilpa Nag has thought of constructing a night shelter for the workers. He added that suitable arrangement will be made for their stay on the second floor of the complex near Kundapur bus stand after obtaining permission from the members. “It will help to keep Nehru maidan and school premises clean,” he said.

Chandrashekar Kharvi asked the reason for keeping the toilet near Gandhi park locked. Mohandas Shenoy suggested that one or two rupees can be charged to the workers to maintain cleanliness of the toilet.

Kodi Prabhaker objected for having set aside funds for the development of Babbukudru crematorium as the area does not come under the council limits. He asked to develop Kodi crematorium instead. Raviraj Kharvi said that providing funds for the development of a crematorium is a humane act which has no boundaries. “It is for the use of Kharvikeri residents. I have records of providing funds for other crematoriums in the past,” he said.

Chandrashekar Kharvi alleged that the new council administration does not do any developmental work. The ruling party members were annoyed by the comments and urged for the comment to be withdrawn. The president said that several developmental works have been conducted during the period and their list will be given to the members in the next meeting.

Council president Vasanti Saranga presided over the meeting. Vice president Rajesh Kaveri, standing committee president Cicily Kotian and chief official Gopalakrishna Shetty were present.
