Puttur, Apr 5: In a case of death of a woman in a plantation in Murulya village in the taluk which had occurred three years back, the court has held the accused guilty of committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Judgement in the case has been reserved for April 6.

Two persons, Ravi and Kamalamma, had approached the owner of a plantation located at Kodyakanda in Murulya village on December  30,  2013 seeking work, claiming that they were a couple. Within two days of joining work there, Kamalamma was found murdered. Ravi was charged with the murder. During investigation, it was found that Kamalamma had over 25 injury marks in her body and she was also repeatedly hit by a stick. DNA tests had confirmed that the traces of skin and blood stains found in Kamamma's fingernails were those of Ravi.

Both of them had dinner and gone to bed, and the lady had lost life early morning the next day after fight broke out between the two. The court was of the opinion that Kamalamma was hit by Ravi in a fit of rage without the intention of killing her. Therefore it concluded that this is a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304 of Indian Penal Code.

The then Sullia police circle inspector,Satish B S, had investigated the case and filed charge sheet. Ravi, who had gone missing, was arrested from Subrahmanya on February 13, 2014.   Public prosecutor, Uday Kumar, had presented the case on behalf of the prosecution.
