Bengaluru, Apr 6: After a long search of several places and buildings in the city for its location, the Legislators’ Club of Karnataka is all set to come up near the Chief Minister’s official residence, Anugraha, in Bengaluru.

The Club will come up on a 2.3-acre plot adjacent to Anugraha, the Chief Minister’s residence. 

At present, quarters of Group D employees are located in the area, which accommodates about 30 families. The families will be shifted to a suitable alternative site.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker KB Koliwad on Thursday moved to a newly renovated office in the Vidhana Soudha.

He said a committee has been formed under PWD Principal Secretary M Lakshminarayana for preparing the estimates and the designs of the club.

Koliwad said the legislators' club will be modelled on the New Delhi-based constitutional club meant for Parliamentarians. 

"Membership will be given to all the legislators, including MLCs, MLAs and MPs, to utilize the recreational facilities," said the speaker.

The decision on membership for former MLAs, MLCs and MPs is yet to be taken but is likely to be in keeping with the membership criteria fixed by the constitutional club.

Koliwad said the committee will visit the constitutional club before giving its nod for the construction of the legislators' club.

The Speaker said the Secretariat has implemented several measures to cut down expenditure in the last one year. 

Unlike the Legislative Council Secretariat, the Assembly Secretariat has surrendered Rs15 crore released by the Finance Department for purchase of cars, he said. 

A sum of Rs 68 lakh was spent on the renovation of the office. 

The Council had spent Rs 1 crore on the renovation of the office of Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy three years ago.
