Kundapur, Apr 8: An incident in which a small girl was raped by a 53-year-old man came to light with undue delay. The incident happened at Bidkalkatte in the taluk.

It is said that the man in question lured the girl  by offering chocolate. The victim belongs to a Tamil Nadu-based family which ekes out a living by working as coolies. Her family has made Bidkalkatte its home since the last some years. It is said that the girl had visited his shop, when the accused invited her inside by offering chocolate. He then raped the girl, it is said.

The girl complained of acute abdominal pain on Friday April 7 morning. After she revealed about her problems to her neighbours, she was taken to primary health centre nearby where the incident came to light. After the doctors advised her to approach well-equipped hospital for treatment, she was admitted into a private hospital at Koteshwar with the help of locals. From there, she was referred to KMC Hospital Manipal.

The doctors found that there is internal blood clot in the abdomen of the girl and her condition continues to be critical. The girl hails from a very poor family, and her mother has speech problems. Her father is away visiting a far off place on work.

After they got information, police from Kota station went to Manipal hospital where they obtained statement from the victim. The accused stands arrested.
