Mangaluru: Renowned orthopaedic surgeon from coast bags House of Lords award

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Renowned orthopaedic surgeon hailing from Udupi district, Dr A A Shetty, has bagged 'Outstanding Clinical Excellence' award of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom. Dr Shetty, who is known as 'surgeon's surgeon' for his innovations, hails from Asod near Koteshwara in Kundapur taluk, Udupi district.

Dr Shetty has performed excellent research in stem cell technology, cartilage transplant, accelerated bone healing, computer navigation application, 3D printing and use of robotics in minimally invasive surgeries. Dr Shetty has won a large number of awards, 'Hunterian Surgical Medal' and Hunterian Professorship Award' for 2017 by the Royal College of Surgeons of England being two among them.

Dr Shetty, a professor of Royal College, happens to be a director of University of Kent. He has been an adjourn professor of KMC Manipal, SDM Dharwad, MGR University in Tamil Nadu etc. Dr Shetty takes credit for shaping some of the finest orthopaedic surgeons and gifting them to the world. The articles, essays and research papers published by him on health and medical fields have received wide acclaim since the last several decades. His book, 'Techniques in Cartridge Repair Surgery' is being held in high esteem in the medical field. Shetty-Kim Research Foundation founded by him has been providing training in conducting surgeries. This has won universal recognition.

Dr Shetty's name is listed among the researchers published by the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine, which also contains names of several Nobel laureates. Dr Shetty, who also is driven by social concern, has been identified with several social service organizations.
