Udupi: Girl suffocates to death when playing on swing

Udupi, May 3: A girl who was playing on a make shift swing made out of a sari died due to suffocation after the sari got tightened around her neck. This tragic incident happened at Agrahara, Katapadi in the taluk on the evening of Monday May 1.

In this incident, Abhijna (10), daughter of Shashidhar Purohit-Bharati couple from Agrahara, Katapadi, passed away. Shashidhar is a priest by profession.

At around 3.30 pm on Monday, Abhija was playing in a swing made from a sari near her home along with her elder sister and younger brother. As soon as she saw that Abhijna's life was in danger, her mother who failed to release the knot, shouted for help. Locals rushed to there, released the girl from the grip of the sari and rushed her to hospital. Reports said that the girl had died by then.

The victim was a foruth standard student of St Johmn's school at Shankarpura. Kaup police have registered a case of unnatural death.
