Udupi: Auto rickshaw driver commits suicide

Udupi, May 6: J Muhammed, residing at Rebello Compound, Nejar Kelarkalabettu here ended his life by hanging himself at his home on Friday May 5 morning.

Son of the deceased, Shabbir (22), said in his complaint filed at Malpe station that he had left his home for offering prayers at the local mosque along with his elder brother at 4.30 am on Friday. On his return at 5 am, he said he found that his father had hanged himself from the beam of the roof at the dining hall of his house by using a nylon rope.

Muhammed was operating an auto rickshaw from Santhekatte auto stand since several years. He had often told his children that he had raised many loans at Santhekatte which he was unable to repay. Therefore, the children of the victim believe that Muhammed took his life away either because of burden of the said debt or on account of some other reason which they are not aware of, having been frustrated with life.

Malpe police, who have registered a case, have begun investigation.
