Mangaluru: Allegation of torture - CID officials question Ahmed Qureshi

Mangaluru, May 10: Ahmed Qureshi from Suratkal, who is under arrest relating to a case of attempt to murder, was questioned by a team of officials from criminal investigation department (CID) of the state government on Tuesday, May 9.

The CID team, which arrived in the city on Tuesday, visited Wenlock Hospital where Qureshi has been admitted and questioned him for about two hours. It may be recalled that various organisations and Qureshi's brother, Nishad, had alleged that Qureshi was severely tortured by police in confinement, and held a protest, after which CID probe was ordered.

After the case was entrusted to CID by the state government on April 17, a CID team had come here on April 21 and questioned Qureshi, his brother, Nishad, and hospital staff.

Qureshi has secured conditional bail from the court. Process connected with the bail were completed on Tuesday. In all probability, Qureshi will be released on Wednesday, ay 10, sources said. Karnataka State Human Rights Commission is also hearing the complaint of torture separately.
