Udupi: Recklessly driven lorry hits auto rickshaw, kills passenger

Udupi, May 10: After a lorry hit an auto rickshaw late night on Tuesday May 9, one of the occupants of the auto rickshaw lost his life. The accident occurred near Padubidribeedu in Padubidri in the district on national highway 66.

The deceased has been identified as Madhava (30) from Mangaluru.

Madhava had taken part in a programme organized at Uchchila along with some of his relatives from Elinje, Mulky. He was returning to Mulky in an auto rickshaw with his relatives, when a truck that was being driven at high speed recklessly from the direction of Mangaluru suddenly moved to the right side of the road and hit the ill-fated auto rickshaw. Madhava, who was sitting in the rear right side seat, suffered serious injuries to his head and passed away on the spot.

Other passengers and the auto rickshaw driver had a providential escape. On the basis of complaint made by auto rickshaw driver, Wilfred D'Souza, Padubidri police have registered a case and begun investigation.
