Udupi, May 11: Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis urged the public to make use of the upcoming project, the Kaushalya Karnataka Mission, designed especially for the unemployed youth of ages 18 to 35. It will be launched on May 15, she said, addressing the media at the DC office, in Rajathadri Manipal on Wednesday, May 10.
The DC also spoke on issues of Padubidri road widening, water supply to villages and stone quarrying incidents in the district.
"The chief minister of Karnataka, Siddharamayya, will launch Kaushalya Karnataka Mission (KKM) project on Monday, May 15 across the state. The project aims to provide skill training to the unemployed youth. The project will be simultaneously launched in various taluks of Udupi district. District in charge Pramod Madhwaraj will inaugurate the project at Board High School, MLA Sunil Kumar, at Karkala taluk panchayat auditorium, and MLA Kundapur Gopal Poojary, at Government Pre-university College auditorium. A web portal called ‘Kaushalkar.com’ will be launched on the same day," DC Priyanka said.
"Those between 18 and 35 years of age are eligible to register for the programme. Applications can be filled by means of a web portal online, or through the mobile app that will be made available for registration.
39 different subjects are available for the training, which include courses for assistant network superior, insurance agent, fitting, and nursery manager. Registration for the same will start on May 15. The registration camp has been organised for 10 days and may be extended as per the demand. Interested candidates may apply from a cyber cafe, on mobile app or at placement centres then," she added.
"Applicants needs to have their Aadhar number and a residential confirmation certificate through ration card or voter ID card. The application will have a few questions including, the period of training the applicant would like to undergo, and expectation of salary.
"The district aims to achieve a target on a 1:3 basis. Starting the project may take a little while, but once registrations are done, teachers will be appointed for the respective fields. The project is also useful for documenting the number of unemployed people in the state," she said.
Speaking to media persons on the widening of Highway at Padubidri, the DC said, "Minor works have been started, and the NHAI has taken the complete responsibility of the road construction. There was opposition by locals a few years back, but now they agree that the widening is a necessity. Many have voluntarily removed their shops. Once the compensation is settled for the shops demolished, we will start the road widening. The road widening for the 6 km stretch will help avoid road accidents."
About drinking water provision, she informed, "Drinking water is being supplied without any problems. The water is supplied to more than 60 villages, including Karkala and Saligrama. This year, the water situation is better than the previous year, as the timber has been placed at the dams right in time."
On stone mining, "The district administration has taken up serious measures to fence stone quarries, legal or illegal, after Alevoor incident. If any mining owners violate the norms and conditions, the authority will file a criminal case against them," informed DC Priyanka.
