Udupi: Speeding car kills pedestrian near Padubidri

Udupi, May 15: A pedestrian was killed by a speeding car at Thenka Yermal village on national highway 66 near Padubidri in the district on Sunday May 14. The victim has been identified as Rajab (43), who was a resident of K S Rao Nagar Ashraya Colony in Mulky.

Rajab had visited Udyavar to set off country made crackers at a Nemotsava held there. He was returning home in an auto rickshaw when he got down at Thenka Yermal to have tea at a hotel there. A car that reportedly was being driven recklessly and at high speed from the direction of the town towards Mangaluru, it is said, suddenly moved to extreme left on that occasion and hit Rajab, inflicting injuries to him. The injured man was immediately taken to Mulky community health centre, but the doctors declared him brought dead.

Padubidri police registered a case on the basis of a complaint made by the driver of the auto rickshaw in which the ill-fated man had travelled. They said investigation has been taken up.
