Mangaluru, Jun 1: Sources said that cases registered against some people who were arrested relating to communal frictions which happened at Kody,Kotepura and Mogaveerapatna within Ullal police station limits, are being withdrawn soon, and the government will be issuing necessary orders shortly.

Some youngsters from these areas had fought with each other during December, 2013. In course of time, this fight was given religious hue. As a result, tension had mounted in places like Kody, Kotepura, and Mogaveerapatna. Muslims and Mogaveera community members, who had harmonious coexistence in these areas till then, had begun to see each other with suspicion. Minister, U T Khader, thereafter held several meetings including in Ullal police station. Still, minor incidents continued to happen till January 2014.

Later, it was alleged that police personnel had barged into houses of people in Kody, Kotepura and Mogaveerapatna areas at night, and taken into custody several people, many of them Muslims. Locals had then met Khader to impress upon him to release innocent people.

The police had not filed charge sheets against the arrested accused in the 2013 incident. They had sought permission from the government time to  file charge sheet. But Khader took up the issue with the home minster,  and requested him not to allow filing of charge sheet now, as many of the arrested persons are innocent students or elders. Responding to this request, the home minster, it is gathered, did not permit police to file charge sheet now. This will relieve people named in the case of tension about their future.
