Bengaluru, Jul 6: An international museum on the life and work of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara is proposed to built at Kudalasangama at a cost of Rs 144 crore.

The proposed museum will be on the model of Delhi’s Swami Narayana Akshara Dhama museum of of international standards.

A committee headed by Water Resources Minister M?B?Patil would supervise the work.

The proposed museum will come up on a 50-acre plot and will have portraits and objects to depict the life of Basaveshwara, his childhood, education and life. 

The essence of “Anubhava Mantapa”, an academy which worked towards building a casteless society with human values through propagation of vachanas, will also be conveyed at the museum.

Patil said the cost of Rs 144 crore would be shared by the revenue department and Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd.

Kudalasangama is a pilgrim centre in Bagalkot district and the final resting place of Basaveshwara. It is also situated at the confluence of the rivers Krishna and Malaprabha. 

Patil said work on developing Kudalasangama as an international tourist destination has already commenced. 

A detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared and civil works on the Basava International Centre would start in December, he said. 

Arrangements for light and sound shows will also be made. It will also house ‘Sharana Grama’. 

This village will highlight the social revolution launched by Basaveshwara in the 12th century. 

Books about the life and messages of Basaveshwara will also be housed at the museum, he said.
