Mangaluru, Jul 13: Founder president of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike, Yogeesh Shetty Jeppu, who has expressed his strong opposition to efforts being made to change the name of Bavutagudda, battled for the retention of this name.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday July 12, Shetty noted that there are different demands to name this road after Mulky Sundaram Shetty, St Aloysius College Road and Idgah Maidan Road. Therefore he demanded that the current name, Bavutagudda, should be retained as this name brings into memory freedom fighters of Tulunadu.

Central board general secretary of the Vedike, Prashanth Bhat Kadaba, treasurer, Abdurrashid, Anand Amit, Gangadhar and some others were present at the press conference.

On this occasion, Yogeesh Shetty honoured Rajhik Ullal, president of labour unit of the Vedike, who had recently succeeded in bringing out a body that had got stuck inside the rocks at Ullal beach, by offering him fruits and flowers besides draping a shawl around him.
