Puttur, Jul 14: A student who had consumed poison a week back, and who was being treated, lost his battle for life on Thursday July 13. The victim has been identified as Sandesh (18), a first year commerce student of a private degree college in the town.

It is said that the student was frustrated at the fact that he did not get admission into a college of his choice. Out of this frustration, he had consumed poison a week back. On returning from college on July 4 evening, Sandesh had lighted the lamp in the puja room. Shortly thereafter, he began to vomit uncontrollably. He was immediately admitted into a private hospital here. After four days, he was shifted to a private hospital at Mangaluru as he had not responded well to the treatment.

Although the doctors made lot of efforts to save him, Sandesh could ultimately not be saved. Sandesh, it is said, was insistent that he should be admitted for degree course into a prestigious private college at Moodbidri but his parents had got admission into a private college here for him because of their poor financial condition.

Sandesh, it is said, was distraught at not getting admission into the college of his choice. He therefore consumed poison but the family members came to know about it only after he began to vomit.

A case about this incident has been filed at the rural police station here. Police have taken up investigation.
