Puttur: Unaccounted demonetised currency worth Rs 50 lac seized

Puttur, Jul 16: In a swift action, police personnel from the local station raided a spot near Mani in the taluk and seized demonetised currency notes worth Rs 50 lac. The money was not backed by any supporting documents.

The money was being carried in a car that was moving towards Mani from the direction of Madikeri. During the checking by the town police station staff, they found the stashed away currency in the car near Urlandy bypass. In addition to confiscating the entire cash, the police arrestd Muhammed Siraj (34), and Abdul Sharik (29), both from Volalu, as well as Nissar (28) from Bedrody.

During their questioning, the arrested persons said that they were transporting cash belonging to a businessman from Madikeri to Uppinangady where they were to exchange old currency notes with the new ones through a person there. Police personnel are investigating the matter.
