New Delhi, May 22: On Thursday the central government completes four years in power and with elections less than a year away, the UPA is doing what any political party does: Plans to unleash a media blitz.
The UPA government is four years old and quickly learning from the past. Its schemes for the common man haven't been too publicized.
''We did a lot of work, but didn't do enough publicity. We'll have to work on it,'' said Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Leader, RJD.
Poor publicity makes bad politics. So, on its fourth birthday the UPA will:
Release 73 booklets in all.
- This includes a report to the nation talking about the Rs 60,000 crore farm loan waiver and other schemes in 17 Indian languages and English.
- There will be one report for each state telling what the UPA has done for that state and
- An FAQ pocket book answering everything one needs to know about government schemes.
The Congress is getting better publicity. Now it wants better implementation of the schemes.
However, with elections next year its own allies are racing to take credit, for example the rural development minister unveiled his ministry's achievements on Wednesday.
The idea is to tell the people what the UPA has done to bridge the gap between India and Bharat. But the government's publicity blitz is pitted against the adverse publicity generated by rising prices and terror strikes.
