Mangaluru, Sep 7: The department of Surgery, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, from Friday, August 25, held a fortnight-long eye donation camp 'share your sight' to mark the National Eye Donation Fortnight. The camp will conclude on Friday, September 8.
Dr Sarita Gonsalves, MBBS, MS, DNB, assistant professor, department of Ophthalmology, Father Muller Medical College, and consultant at Father Muller Hospital Thumbe, was resource person for the talk and student activity held at the college on Wednesday, September 6.
Third year BHMS students of the college were involved in making charts on the importance of donating eyes after death. Charts were displayed in the hospital premises to create awareness amongst visitors.
The programme included motivational videos on eye donation and the enucleation procedure, pre-test and post-test assessment. Special lectures on corneal blindness and basics of eye donation, were delivered.
Dr K John Paul, head of department incharge, department of Surgery, introduced the resource person and briefed on the necessity for it. Goutham K S, male class representative, welcomed the resource person with a bouquet as a token of appreciation.
Harshitha Neyyalga, female class representative, expressed her views on behalf of the class on the usefulness of the session and proposed the vote of thanks.
Eye donor registration forms were distributed to the participants.
Over 42 participants filled the forms to pledged their eyes. The forms were collected from Father Muller - Rotary Mangalore North Eye Bank. Dr Hafis Sherief, assistant professor, department of Surgery, was instrumental in organising the programme.
