Bangalore: Congress in Deep Trouble - Many MLAs Skip CLP Meeting

SOM / Daijiworld Media Network

Bangalore, July 10:  The Congress plunged into a deep crisis today with most of the MLAs and MLCs including the supporters of former Dy. Chief Minister Siddharamaiah boycotting the crucial meeting of Congress Legislature Party (CLP).

CLP leader and KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge had called the meeting at KPCC office at 11 am.

Kharge had called the meeting under instructions from the party supremo Sonia Gandhi to discuss the very important issue of defections of party MLAs to BJP.

Kharge and other leaders were shocked over the thin attendance of legislators at the meeting.

Of the 77 MLAs of Congress, hardly 40 turned up for the meeting. Only three out of seven Members of Parliament (MPs) were present.

Though there are 130 members in the CLP including MLAs, MLCs and MPs, only about 80 members attended the meeting.v

Followers of Siddharamaiah as well as many MLAs stayed away from the meeting. Though many of them were very much in Bangalore, they did not bother to attend amidst speculations that many more would defect to the BJP.

Significantly, even many among the MLAs from Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, did not show up for the meeting.

V. Somanna and B.C. Patil are among the absentees.

The Congress, which had not witnessed such a turmoil after Devaraj Urs regime, seemed to be a divided house.

DKS angry

Talking to the media persons, former Minister D.K. Shivakumar spit fire against those who did not turn up for the meeting.

He dubbed them as 'cowards' saying that they were hiding else where though in Bangalore.

"They should not play politics like cowards. They should come out and fight. Such cowards would not survive in politics," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi is learnt to have taken Kharge to task following information about the thin attendance.

It is a pity that elected representative of Congress party members did not attend the party meeting. This shows how greedy our elected members for power. They should learn to live with peoples mandate. Government or opposition it is peoples choice. They, instead of jumping where the honey is, should remain where they are and find out the reason of defeat. Now people should not elect them again. The party should not entertain them even. For me, eversince Kumaraswami played the dirty game, both congress & JDS are gone down and who gained,BJP. Also I blame partly State congress politicians who when in power forgot the people who voted them but busy for the musical chairs.

congress really brought this upon themselves. its the seeds of self centred politics that has boomeranged on them. they have polarised comunities hoping they will get votes from particular communities. its precisely brought taken votes away from them with that tactic. people like janardhan poojary go to any extent to speak they mindless mind. i hope they realise the folly and bring corrective measure. but in all probability, they will indulge in further politics instead of bringing in a correction.

Its high time that some young dynamic congress leader steps in and takes over from the incompetent senior leaders of Congress. The High Command of Congress must realize that if CONG has to grow and survive in Karnataka then we must leave these old leaders on the sidelines.Lets face it Mr. Kharge is'nt articulate and does'nt have the charisma to take Congress any further.

Whereas young blood Mr. DK Shivakumar is a dynamic leader who I feel can take the bull by its horns and Mrs. G needs to infuse such young blood in the party. oh yes...Actor turned politicians like Jaggesh etc.are a disgrace to politics they are better off acting in a Kannada C grade film.

The only way forward for the congress is to jettison leaders like Kharge and hand over the baton to charismatic leaders like Krishna or Shivakumar. The congress could have done much better in the election if they had given Krishna a free hand. I really don't understand how a man like Kharge can be entrusted with the responsibility of running the party. He has no charisma at all and speaks like a broken tape recorder.

Dear Mrs. Gandhi: Please change Kharge, Put Sidhramayya as KPCC President, Janardhan, Poojary and S.M. Krishna and Moily are the best people of Karnataka. Give them the responsibility. They will do well and build the party. May the Lord bless you. E. W. Frank

This is the time to find out who real party man is, and who the power and money hungry man is. One cannot stop a power hungry man, please let them go. Do not be afraid of such people, power hungry people are not for the party or for the people, they are for themselves. People will not spare them. We don’t have to see their qualification or background, value is written on the face.

Respected Ms.Sonia Gandhi and all top leaders of the Congress.why Mr.Kharge should be given a chance for all the top posts in the Congress, were congress in his hands is getting weakned.

Dont you  have any other talented personalities in the Congress who can be given the post of state party leadership like Mr.Janardhan Poojary or any other strong youth from our state. Please do consider this matter seriously. If Congress state president is changed everything will be fine with Congress that is for sure

Before the congress gets wiped out from Karnataka once and for all drastic steps need to be taken immediately. Self serving leaders like Oscar, Janardhan Poojary, Mallikarjun Kharge and a few others need to be side lined. Charismatic leaders like S.M Krishna, Veerappa Moily and Margaret Alva should be given responsibility to revamp the party. Younger leaders should be quickly groomed to take the BJP and the JD(s) head on. I hope the congress High command wakes up quickly before it is too late.

Bad karma is catching up with Cong(I) and JD(S). They ruined our state for so many years, splitting people based on religion and caste. All the votes we gave were used for exploiting us. Especially, the muslim community rallied behind these people for nothing. We got nothing except empty rhetoric and false hopes. I'm sick of India politics.
