Kundapur, Dec 19: Byndoor, which forms part of Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency in spite of being part of Udupi district, is preparing to function as an independent taluk with effect from January 1, 2018. This has been made possible by incessant efforts put in by people, organizations and institutions since the last three decades and the hard work of MLA of the constituency, Gopal Poojary.

A notification asking the concerned to make preparations for the taluk to become functional from January 1 onward has been received.

Although the then chief minister, Jagadish Shettar, had announced creation of 43 new taluks in his budget for 2013, the issue had remained stranded there. After current chief minister, Siddaramaiah, announced the creation of new taluks including Byndoor from January 1 next, Byndoor will come into being as a new taluk of Udupi district from January 1. With Byndoor turning into taluk headquarters, several offices will be opened there and the town has the bright prospect of witmessing all-round progress.
