Mangaluru, Oct 11:
The body of 18-year-old Shobhit M Gowda, a student who went missing after being swept away by strong waves at Peribail Beach in Someshwara, has been recovered.

Shobhit, a native of Kammaradi in Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district, was a first-year BCom student at SDM College in Ujire. He was part of a nine-member group of students who had visited the Swami Koragajja shrine in Kuttar before heading to the beach.

Tragedy struck when Shobhit and his friend Akash ventured into the water and were pulled in by the rough currents.

Akash, who knew how to swim, managed to battle the waves and reach the shore safely. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru and is reportedly recovering.

Following the drowning, personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Coastal Security Police, Home Guards, and Ullal police launched an extensive search operation.

Shobhit's body was eventually discovered at the exact location where he had gone missing. Local fishermen from Kotepura retrieved the body using their boat and brought it ashore.

Sources revealed that Shobhit was the only son of his parents. A case has been registered at the Ullal police station in connection with the incident.
