Udupi, Dec 23: The district administration has failed to issue record of rights, liabilities, tenancy and crops (RTC) to seven families living in survey no. 87 of Badagabettu village here since over a decade. As the families have now sought seizure of 12 vehicles belonging to the district administration towards this failure, the civil court here has served show cause notices to the administration, seeking to know why its vehicles should not be seized as prayed for.

RTI activist, Yogeesh Shet, gave this information at a press conference held here on Friday December 22. "The government issued Saguvali Chit (certificate of grant)  to these families on November 21, 1982. When the families took possession of the land and tried to fence the area, staff of the tahsildar's office had blocked their effort and uprooted the fence," he said.

After the beneficiary families filed suit in the court here, the court through its verdict dated June 12, 2007, held that the grant of land to families was in tune with law. An appeal filed by the government thereafter against this judgement was dismissed by the court. The families have been moving from pillar to post since the last ten years to get the RTC changed into their names but there is no positive response. As the government violated court order in not issuing RTC to beneficiaries, the court, which upheld their petition dated November 10 2017 to seize 12 vehicles belonging to district administration, has served show cause notice to the district administration, seeking to know why the vehicles as above should not be seized for violating court verdict. The officials have been asked to present themselves in the court, Shet stated.
