‘Udupi Adventure Festival’ to be held at Malpe, surrounding beaches

Udupi, Dec 25: District administration, department of tourism Udupi, department of youth employment and sports, Nirmithi Kendra, Malpe Beach Development Committee, Coastal Tourism Association and General Thimmayya National Academy, Bengaluru will jointly host a three-day 'Udupi Adventure Festival' from December 29 to 31.

Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis released the invitation of the event on December 23 at DC’s office, Rajathadri Manipal.



The district administration is all set to hold such a festival for the first time in Malpe. This is the third of the ten such events that would be organised in collaboration with the department of tourism.

The festival will consists of five components that are competition and races, creating an experience for the general public, seminar on adventure sports and entertainment.

Various events will be inaugurated IT, BT, S&T department, information development, biotechnology and science and technology department and minister for tourism Priyank Kharge.

District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj will be preside over the programme.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA Kaup, Sunil Kumar, MLA Karkala, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Dinakar Babu, president, Udupi zilla panchayat, Shobha Karandlaje, MP Udupi Chikkamagaluru, B S Yeddyurappa, state BJP president, K Gopal Poojary, MLA Byndoor, Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLA Kundapur, Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC and other political leaders will be present along with special invitees.

On December 29, magical drummer and world renowned percussionist Shivamani will enthrall the audience with his rocking drumming style at Malpe Beach.

A sand sculpture competition, ‘Sand Fantasy’ will also be organised at the beach. Interested artists can try their luck at the competition which will begin at 10 am. The best will win cash prize of Rs 25,000.

A three day photography contest will also be organised at St Mary's Island, Malpe beach. The competition is open for public. Contestants can capture different places in and around Malpe. It should be submitted on December 31 by 4 pm to win cash prizes Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 for first, second and third place respectively.

Painting and art camp will be held from December 29 to 31 at St Mary's Island. Various artists can paint and exhibit their masterpieces on the spot.

A dog show will be held on December 31 at Ajjarkad Bayalu Rangamandira which will be open for public. More than 100 have already been registered. As many as 125 dogs of different breeds are expected to participate in the show.

Alva’s cultural team will entertain audience through dance performance on December 30 at 7 pm at Malpe beach.

Sa Re Ga Pa musical team will perform on December 30 at 7pm. The team will enthrall people with their sizzling performance in the night.

Another interesting competition is scuba diving at Kaup beach. People can experience the thrill of the deep sea; explore flora, fauna and rich marine life at the rocky islands of Kaup beach from December 24 to 31.

There will also have cultural programmes, bike rides, kite festival, food court/food festival, music concert, kayak boat, oormane selfie booth, and sand art exhibition at Koteshwar Kinara beach, Kaup beach.

Byndoor Beach Utsav 2017 will be held at Someshwar beach Byndoor on December 28 and 29.

Udupi tourists can experience the joy of helicopter rides which is already inaugurated and function till January 1, 2018.

The first National Junior Open Water Swimming Championship 2017 will be held on December 30 and 31 at Malpe beach. Qualifying contestants will get an opportunity to participate in World Junior Open Water Swimming Championship 2018, organised by FINA.

There will also be different fun filled activities like making traditional, eco friendly and modern ‘Goodudeepas’ on December 29.

A firecracker show will be held on December 31 at Malpe beach at midnight.

Besides, adventure related short films will be screened on December 30 at Malpe beach.

A seminar will be conducted in Udupi and Brahmavarwhere Brig K Kumar, a legendary climber and a leader of Indian Army’s first successful Everest expedition will speak along with other mountaineers on the last two days of December.

Roshan Shetty, assistant director sports and youth empowerment department, and Anitha, assistant director of tourism department and in-charge of events were present at the press meet.
