Mangaluru: Auto rickshaw driver falls into well, drowns

Mangaluru, Dec 26: An auto rickshaw driver fell into a well near his home and lost his life. The incident happened on Monday December 25, when the family was  happily celebrating Christmas.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Pinto (32), son of  Nicholas Pinto, resident of Kandadabettu on Madame-Karpe Road near Siddakatte. He was bringing home Idli and meat which had been prepared at the home of a relative, Allwyn Rodrigues, living a little away from his home, when he accidentally slipped and fell into the open well located in the areca nut plantation.  When he fell, his head banged against the concrete ring lining the well as a result of which he suffered serious injuries and drowned.

Hearing the huge sound made by this fall, Allwyn and some locals rushed to the spot, but they could not bring the victim out in spite of their best efforts. After fire brigade in the town was called for assistance, the firemen could bring the body out of the well on Monday evening.

A case was registered relating to this incident at Punjalkatte police station.
