Mangaluru, Feb 13: Corporator D K Ashok justified the statement of Prathibha Kulai during a public rally in Karkala.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, February 12, he said, “Prathibha Kulai said it in a right way just to bring youth indulging in immoral activities to the mainstream. When Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar was a Bajrang Dal leader, he diverted the minds of youths in making them indulge in immoral activities. He also gave provocative speech and we strongly condemn it. Innocent poor youths will lead their life peacefully if Sunil Kumar shuts his mouth.”

The chairperson of standing committee on tax appellate and finance committee MCC Prathibha Kulai said, “I justified my statement during the rally because of the concern towards the backward community who indulge in immoral activity. In this regard, I received several open threats in social media and also abusive comments. This is not the first time that I am speaking. Even during the debate programme, I spoke in the same way which did not become viral.

“As election is around the corner, this speech has become viral. I just shared my opinion and everyone has freedom of speech and expression. Receiving threat messages and abusive comments in social media, my family is being disturbed regularly. I will personally file a complaint with the police commissioner regarding the abusive remarks in social media and demand action against the same,” she said.

District women Congress president Shalet Pinto, Congress spokesperson Mohammed Hanif, Ganesh Poojary and others were present.
