Udupi: Visit to union minister of agriculture fruitful –Pramod Madhwaraj

Udupi, Mar 3: Karnataka minister of fisheries, Pramod Madhwaraj met union minister of agriculture and secretary to the union minister of agriculture on February 21 and 22. During the visit, he requested the release of Rs 80 crore funds that is pending from the union government towards several fisheries projects taken up in Karnataka. He also requested for approval of fisheries ports in Kulai and Hejmady with monetary help from the center.

“Rs 3,020 lac are due from the union government for Mangaluru fisheries port third stage development, Rs 91.50 lac for Honnavar fisheries port second stage work, Rs 899.75 lac for Amadalli fisheries port development, Rs 2,500 lac for breakwater wall at Gangolli fisheries port, Rs 126.70 lac for dredging at Kandathapalli, Mangaluru, Rs 200 lac for dredging at Malpe basin, Kodi Kanyana and Belikeri, Rs 348.32 lac for savings cum relief project, Rs 7,863.14 lac assistance for construction of fish markets and Rs 48 lac for insulated vehicles.

“The union minister has reportedly responded positively and said that he will release Rs 20 crore for break wall at Gangolli and look into funds for other projects.

Karnataka chief secretary of animal husbandry and director of fisheries have held further discussions with the ministry of agriculture at the center. The project approval committee has consented for Kulai fisheries port costing approximately Rs 196 crore. Rs 20 crore for break wall at Gangolli fisheries port, Rs 9.90 crore for blue revolution, Readjustment of Rs 3.44 crore pending for ice factories and Rs 1.55 crore for dredging is being reviewed and expected soon, said minister Pramod Madhwaraj adding that the visit was successful.
