Trump slams Alec Baldwin over impersonation act

Washington, Mar 3 (IANS): Donald Trump has slammed Alec Baldwin, the actor who has famously played the US President on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) since 2016, saying that watching his impersonation acts were an "agony" for audiences, the media reported.

"Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony. Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch," Trump tweeted on Friday, at first mis-spelling Baldwin's name as "Alex" before fixing it.

"Alex, it was also agony for those who were forced to watch. You were terrible. Bring back Darrell Hammond, much funnier and a far greater talent!"

Baldwin quickly shot back, CNN reported.

"Agony though it may be, I'd like to hang in there for the impeachment hearings, the resignation speech, the farewell helicopter ride to Mar-A-Lago. You know. The Good Stuff. That we've all been waiting for," the actor tweeted.

Next, he tweeted: "Looking forward to the Trump Presidential Library. A putting green. Recipes for chocolate cake. A live Twitter feed for visitors to post on. A little black book with the phone numbers of porn stars. You're in and out in five minutes. Just like...

"And Mr President... please ask your wife to stop calling me for SNL tickets. (Hey, Melania... We've got Charles Barkley this Saturday!"

Trump's Friday tweet came after Baldwin, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter said that portraying the President has become an "agony" and that he plans to dedicate himself to opposing him in the upcoming elections, Politico news reported.

"I'll vote for Mitt Romney. I don't care. Anybody over this guy. It doesn't matter. We have to get rid of him. And that's another project I'm working on," Baldwin said.

Baldwin's impersonation of Trump portrays the president as meaner and more incompetent than crafty.

Trump had hosted the show in November 2015 while he was a Republican primary candidate.
