Mumbai, Aug 18: Goan Review Art Foundation (GRAF), the cultural body of the Konkani-English bi-monthly 'The Goan Review', will celebrate 'World Konkani Day 2008', in the metro at the Goan Institute Hall, Thakurdwar, Dabul, on Saturday, August 23,
at 6.30 pm.
World Konkani Day is being celebrated in recognition of Konkani as one of the national languages of the country. This year, August 20 commemorated the 16th anniversary of the inclusion of Konkani in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The event will have a talk on Konkani language by J B Moraes, renowned Konkani litterateur and Sahitya Akademi award winner, followed by cultural items highlighting the rich traditional culture of the Konkan, consisting of 'mando-dulpods', songs, mimicry, and music.
Prominent Konkani personalities who have rendered yeoman service to Konkani language, art, and culture, will be felicitated at this function. Goa's famed classical musician of international repute, Milind Raikar, will be the chief guest.
