Mangaluru, Apr 11: Vijaya Bank Workers' Association slammed the management of St Aloysius College for displaying 'St Aloysius Road' in their hoardings and banners.

In a press meet held here on Tuesday, April 10, Sita Charan Shetty, former joint secretary, Vijaya Bank Workers' Association said "Karnataka High Court has already permitted to rename  the road, which passing in front of St Aloysius college as 'Mulki Sundaram Shetty Road'. We are now waiting permission from Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for the renaming ceremony. Due to assembly elections we have not yet got the permission. Once we get the permission from MCC, we will organize the renaming programme. But in the midst of all these happenings, the management of St Aloysius college is spreading false news through media. Beside this it is highlighting the road as 'St Aloysius Road' in its board and hoardings. This act of St Aloysius College is contempt of court order. We condemn this act."

Hanumanth Kamath, social activist said " St Aloysius College has already gained popularity on the national and international level. Its students themselves are big ambassadors of the college. They have made tremendous achievements in various fields. Despite this, we are unable to understand why the college management is hell bent on naming this road as 'St Aloysius Road'. Why they want to identity the institution by a road? Anyway, we sure that law is with us because we are fighting this issue within the framework of law. We never want to disrupt the harmony and brotherhood because of this issue. We are waiting for the permission from MCC. Once we get the permission in writing, we will rename the road."

"We requesting the college management of St Aloysius College to please stop spreading wrong news and accept the court order. We are not against the college because we respect the dignity of college."

Devicharan Shetty, Mulki Karunakar Shetty and Raghuram Suvarna were present.
