High-altitude Himalayan marathon in Himachal from April 30

Shimla, Apr 28 (IANS): The seventh edition of the high-altitude Himalayan Running and Living Marathon will be organised in the picturesque Sangla Valley in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh from April 30 to May 4, it was announced on Saturday.

This is one of the few marathons in the world to be conducted at an altitude above 10,000 feet.

Runners from India, Britain and Dubai will participate.

The run is being organized by New Delhi-based Running and Living and supported by the state Department of Youth Services and Sports.

Himachal Additional Chief Secretary Tarun Kapoor said the landscape of Himachal Pradesh is ideal for challenging runs which treat the participants to what nature has to offer.

The registered participants and those who want to register at the last minute would have to visit the Banjara camp at Batseri village, eight km from Sangla, on April 30 for the race briefing, an organiser told IANS.

The highest elevation is of 11,500 feet at Chitkul village, the last motortable village located close to China.
