Bantwal: Two members of gang waiting to commit robbery held

Bantwal, May 8: Police personnel of rural station here have succeeded in taking into custody two out of six members of a gang that was lying in wait to commit robbery at Maripalla on national highway 75.

The people who were held were Muhammed Arfaz from Melangady in Mangaluru taluk, and his friend, Muhammed Suhail alias Tupail from Maripalla.

The police team was on patrol duty near the graveyard at Maripalla in Thumbe village on the night of Friday when it saw a few people waiting in a suspicious manner. As soon as they sighted the police, the gang members ran helter-skelter.

The police who grew suspicious, chased the gang and succeeded in taking into custody Arfaz and Suhail. Upon questioning they gave the identities of those who ran away as Shaqir, Naufal, T Shamir and Nissar from Maripalla. The police got information that the gang members were waiting by the roadside to waylay drivers of trucks and other vehicles at night and rob them.
