Puttur: Man accused of abducting, raping minor girl, arrested

Puttur, May 9: A person who has been accused of kidnapping a minor girl and raping her, stands arrested by police personnel of Uppinangady police station. The arrested accused happens to be Venkatesh Vaddara (31), a native of Haveri.

Venkatesh had been working in the plantation belonging to a person from Kaniyoor village along with wife and children. A 17-year-old girl from the same place also used to regularly come to this farm to work. Venkatesh had developed a closeness to the girl. After befriending her, he fled from the place along with the girl and his small child. Relating to this incident, a complaint has been registered at Uppinangady police station.

The Uppinangady police, who undertook the investigation found in the course of time that the man who had eloped with the minor had settled down for work at a coffee plantation near Somwarpet in Kodagu district. They arrested him from there.

It is gathered that Venkatesh's first wife had died and he has a child born through her. Through his second wife, he has four children. After escaping, he had taken enough care not to be noticed by the police, but his luck ran out and Uppinangady police found out his whereabouts.
