Udupi: Mahiti Seva Samiti Karnataka president urges KMC Manipal to renew ESI contract

Media Release

Udupi, May 9: President of Mahiti Seva Samiti All India NGO, G A Koteyar brought to notice that KMC Manipal has stopped the super specialty treatment and cashless treatment to ESI contributors and their family members.

KMC Hospital has been a member of ESI for several years. Under the provision of ESI, member hospitals must sign a contract with the ESI Corporation every year or every third year. It has been observed that the KMC contract had expired in December 2017. However, on good faith KMC Hospital has treated ESI members up to March 31. From April onwards, KMC’s name was removed from the tie-up hospital list. Under that provision, without a contract, no ESI treatment can be extended to patients.

Stopping ESI super specialty treatment and cashless treatment has affected thousands of ESI contributors and their families. In Udupi district, there are a total of 8000 ESI contributors. The total contribution by ESI contributors per month is Rs 9,60,00,000 (nine crore sixty lakh only). KMC is the only hospital with great amenities for the treatment.

G A Koteyar has appealed to KMC Manipal in his letter to renew the contract. If the concerned authorities fail to take any action, Mahiti Seva Samiti Karnataka, All India NGO will organize a protest. All the ESI contributors and their family members will gather on May 14 in front of DC office. The president who is presently 72 years old will go on hungerstrike.
