Kundapur: BJP leader killed in car-motor bike collision

Kundapur, May 10: A motor bike and a car were involved in collision near Balkattu bridge in Amparu village on the state highway between the town and Siddapur on Wednesday May 9 afternoon. The bike rider was killed in this accident.

Mahesh Hegde (56), former gram panchayat member and husband of the taluk panchayat member here, Latha Shetty, succumbed to injuries in the accident. He was a native of Beloor village in the taluk. The car driver and a passenger in the car, Shankar Shetty, are being treated at Manipal Hospital.



Mahesh Hegde had taken part in campaigning on behalf of local assembly constituency BJP candidate, Halady Srinivas Hegde. He had dropped his wife for Vaikunta Samaradhane of their relative in Koteshwar and was going for another programme at Kamalashile.

On his way back, a car which approached him from the opposite direction knocked him down. Reportedly the car moved ahead after the accident, hit a tree and then tumbled into a roadside pit.

Mahesh Hegde suffered critical injuries in the accident. He breathed his last while being taken to a private hospital here. On coming to know about the demise of party activist, Halady Srinivas Shetty, who was busy on campaign work, rushed to the government hospital here.

The road show scheduled for the day was suspended. A case was registered at Shankernarayana police station.
