Moodbidri, May 11: An attempt was made on the life of Srinivas Devadiga, a former nominated municipal councillor here and BJP activist. The incident happened near his home at Ladi here at around 10.50 pm on Wednesday.

Devadiga said in his complaint that two strangers pounced upon him with knives in hand. He was injured and treated in the government hospital here. Devadiga said that the assailants fled at the sight of an approaching auto rickshaw. It could not be ascertained whether the attack was backed by political reasons or personal enmity.

Dakshina Kannada district BJP spokesperson, K Krishnaraja Hegde, has condemned the incident. He termed the attack on sincere and honest party worker as a reflection on the administrative style of Siddaramaiah-led state government. Saying that voices of dissent cannot be suppressed through oppression, he requested the police commissioner to investigate the incident and punish the guilty.
