Udupi, May 11: Normally, as a security measure, indelible ink is applied to the left index finger once a voter proceeds to cast his or her vote. However, the authorities have recommended to the election commission, suggesting smearing of indelible ink on the right index finger of voters in Kundapur and Kaup constituencies in the district this time, as bypolls for gram panchayats were held in these constituencies four months back.

The authorities are yet to get a response from the concerned. A specific instruction in this connection is expected to be received on Friday.

All the polling agents have been requested to be present at the respective polling booths at 6 am on Saturday to take part in mock polling exercise. There are 1,103 polling booths in the district.

Soliciting for votes will be banned for a radius of 100 metres from polling booths on polling day. Candidates can set up their booths 200 metres away from the booths. These booths can have a table, two chairs, and a banner measuring not more than 3 x 1.5 feet. However, obtention of prior permission from local bodies is a must for setting up of booths.
