Byndoor, May 11: Treasurer of Udupi district Congress Commitee, S Vasudeva Yadiyala Hallihole, has filed complaint with the electoral officer and cyber crime department against three persons for slander. He has alleged that the three accused had made false propaganda against Congress candidate for assembly election from local constituency and other party leaders through social websites by twisting facts about a land dispute that was already settled by the court.

A woman, Venka Kulalthi, had raised dispute against Yadiyala's family relating to a piece of land sanctioned to the latter by the government in 1958 for cashew cultivation. The court had finally pronounced its verdict in 2016 in favour of Yadiyala. "This dispute is connected with my family. It has nothing to do with either Congress party or its candidate.

But a person named Vasant Giliyar, having been encouraged by opposition parties, has published defaming and misleading material in his Facebook page against me and my party. Several others including his supporters, Nagaraja Shetty Naikambali, Praveen Yakshimath, and others have shared the post through WhatsApp groups, thus giving this material widespread publicity. This misdeed was backed by the intention of damaging the reputation of me and Congress party candidate, and to give rise to adverse opinion so that the voters act against them in the election. This also is clear violation of election code of conduct,"Yadiyala said in his complaint. He has urged the officials to take appropriate legal action against the erring persons.
