Bangalore, Sep 12: Medico Pastoral Association along with Sahai, who deal with Love for Life, an action plan to prevent self harm, in association with Rotary Club of Bangalore East, organized World Suicide Prevention Day at East Cultural Association, Indira Nagar, Bangalore on Wednesday Sept 10.
A skit titled 'It's a Beautiful Day. Come Home to Love. Invoking the love for life,' by Chrysallis Performance Arts centre for the Challenged and children of the Vatsalya Charitable Trust, was staged by little children.
Chief Guest of the day was former chief post master General, S Theodore Baskaran. Centenary district governor Rtn S R Yogananda and Dr G Gururaj, professor and head of the department of epidemiology and Dr J W Sabhaney,consultant psychiatrist of Medico Pastoral Association, were the guests of honour. Sanjeev Rao from Sahai graced the occasion with his presence.
Dr Sabhaney welcomed the gathering. At this juncture, Sahai website, www.sahaihelpline.org, was released for catering to the services of the public. Appreciation letters were presented to those successful in these fields. A documentary by Dr Gladys Sumithra, honorary secretary of MPA, 'Life.. You're Worth It' was screened and viewed by all. The documentary came in for lot of praise.
Volunteers from Sahai Helpline, Viveka and Samadhan Counselling Centres shared their experiences. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Anita Gracias, a Sahai volunteer followed by Candle light Vigil by Diana Tholoor and the Sahai Team.
