Chikkamagaluru: Bus plunges into ditch - 16 injured

Chikkamagaluru, Jun 16: 16 passengers of a sleeper coach of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation were injured after their bus dived into a 30-feet ditch in the early hours of Friday June 15. The bus was bound from Bengaluru to Sringeri and the accident happened after the driver lost control over the bus while negotiating the road bend near Guddehalla in the taluk.

The bus had 27 passengers when it met with this accident. Out of the injured, three were rushed to Manipal hospital and five to Shivamogga. Eight others were admitted into the hospital at Koppa. Veteran journalist, Du Gu Laxman and BJP media convener, Shantaram, who were inside the bus were also injured. They are under treatment at Parashmani Hospital Koppa. Among the injured, five are members of the same family. Other passengers escaped with minor injuries and they were treated as outpatients.

The bus was covering the road stretch between Narasimharajapura and Kuduregundi when the accident happened at 5.30 am. After crossing the Guddehalla bus stand, the bus went out of the driver's control while negotiating the road bend there.
