Bengaluru, Jun 24: The special investigation team (SIT) reconstructed journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder scene, taking her alleged killer Parashuram Waghmore to her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Friday June 22 night.
Waghmore was brought to Bengaluru on Friday and was taken to the crime scene around 8 pm, the time Lankesh was actually shot on September 5, 2017.
An SIT source said that Waghmore was made to ride a bike around Lankesh’s neighbourhood, the same way he had done it on the murder night. The dramatized recce, helped the investigation team understand the exact route the alleged killer took to reach Lankesh’s house and the route he used to escape.
The officials also said that Waghmore’s height and physical description matches with the killer’s as per the forensic reports.
Waghmore who had confessed of practicing shooting and meeting others at Belagavi and Sindagi, was taken to these places by the SIT.
Petition Dismissed
The accused in the case had filed a petition that they were not allowed to meet their lawyer or visitors. Their lawyer Amrutesh argued that not allowing a meeting with his clients to get required information amounts to contempt of court. He added that his request to meet all his clients at once was also turned down by the SIT.
The SIT officials argued back, stating that the investigation was underway and they are travelling with the accused to different places as part of the investigation.
The 5th sessions court dismissed the plea filed by the accused.
