Bengaluru, Jun 28: BJP is learnt to have received suggestion from the Sangh Parivar to give the post of the state BJP president to someone else to meet caste equations. It feels that this has become necessary also to satisfy one man-one post norm, as Yeddyurappa already is the leader of the opposition in the legislative assembly.
Sources say that this has put the national leadership of the party in a quandary as Lok Sabha election is less than a year away, and it does not have a leader of eminence to match Yeddyurappa in the state. It is said that RSS is of the opinion that making someone from Vokkaliga or other categories as president might prove to be beneficial for the party. RSS also feels that Yeddyurappa's advancing age justifies finding a replacement for him. It feels that it would be appropriate to groom a leader in place of Yeddyurappa now itself and that this change should be affected at the earliest so that preparations for Lok Sabha election can begin early in right earnest. But Yeddyurappa and the party high command are in favour of continuing him till the Lok Sabha election, it is learnt.
Yeddyurappa
Yeddyurappa has told his supporters, whom he met in batches at his residence over the last couple of days, to speak out their mind if the situation so arises. He however is ready to sacrifice the post of the state BJP president if the circumstances are compelling. He went to Ahmadabad two days back to clarify this stand on this issue to Amit Shah, sources added.
BJP wants to take every step carefully as it knows that without Yeddyurappa, it might prove difficult for the party to maintain the same popularity. As such, party leaders have asked RSS to suggest the leader it feels holds as much clout as Yeddyurappa. But RSS is learnt to have said that a young and committed leader, even if he is a new face, with the capacity to lead the party on the lines set by Yeddyurappa should be given the reins. It feels that caste calculations apart, fresh face will also do if a decision is taken at the earliest, as Yeddyurappa is already 75 years old and hence might find it harder to move about as before.
