Udupi, Jun 29: On Thursday June 28, the court of the chief judicial magistrate here extended judicial custody of nine persons including Hiriadka police sub-inspector, D N Kumar, who have been arrested in connection with the allegation of murdering cattle trader, Hussainabba from Jokatte Mangaluru.

The judicial custody of the accused had ended on Thursday. The prosecution sought extension of their judicial custody. Out of the nine accused, eight have been lodged in Karwar jail whereas the other accused, Deepak Hegde, is in the district prison at Mangaluru. They were not produced in the court because of shortage of staff.

Judge of the chief senior civil and chief judicial magistrate, V S Pandith, extended their judicial custody by two more weeks.

Out of 11 persons named as accused in the case, Hiriadka head constable, Mohan Kotwal, and Bajrang Dal leader, Prasad Kondady, have secured bail so far.

In addition to D N Kumar, other accused who are in judicial custody and lodged in the prison happen to be Gopal, a police constable, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Suresh Mendon, Bajrang Dal activists, Umesh Shetty, Rathan Poojary, Chetan Acharya, Shylesh Shetty, Ganesh Naik, and Deepak Hegde from Perdoor.
