Mangaluru: Do not defame St Agnes College with false accusations - U T Khader

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Jun 30: District in-charge minister on Saturday, June 30, said that some elements were simply trying to defame St Agnes College.

Speaking to media after the meeting of NHAI officers held at DC office, Khader said, “St Agnes College is a nationally reputed educational institution. It has a great history and is a pioneer of education in the state. Everyone respects the college and management of St Agnes College. But now, a few people are trying to defame this institution,”

“These types of issues should be discussed at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office and solutions should be found out there only. There is no need to publicize such issues or take them to the streets. I have already discussed this issue the DC. We are hoping that the issue will have a peaceful ending. It is every individual’s responsibility to maintain communal harmony in our surroundings and the district. It will lead to a peaceful and civilized society,” he added.

"There are reports that a girl studying at St Agnes College has received a threat call from abroad compelling her to support the hijab issue. If she is ready to file a complaint, we will definitely take action,” he said.

Answering a query on Mularpatna bridge collapse, he said, "I have visited the bridge which collapsed recently. Necessary actions will be taken by the officials and engineers. I have already instructed the DC to provide motor boats for locals to cross the river.”

The main purpose of school uniform among students is to bring the sense of belonging and equality and relieve the pressure from the poor students who cannot afford different dresses on daily basis.
It is very much obvious that none of the above requirements are compromised if head scarf is allowed to wear for Muslim students. In fact it would set an example before the students to witness the practice of coexistence among all cultures.

Regarding your other examples of Muslims fighting among themselves in other countries, please note that this is unwise from you to relate those matters to this issue. Those fighting in other counties is purely political. The main reason for wars is is the dictatorial behavior of the Kings or PMs or Presidents. One more core reason is that Muslims are not following Islam at the first place.
By the way fighting or differences are there in all religions and existence of various groups and subgroups are examples of that. when the desires of the Ruler overcomes his sense of justice then that person no longer remains religious and he can oppress anyone; be it a person of any other religion or his own religion.

Why are twisting the questions posed in the comments section ? Nobody questioned or objected to Yogi Adithyanath's religious attire in his all walks of life. It was tried to brought to your notice that as a CM is free to practice his dress code and nuns are free to practice theirs; is it not the ethical responsibility to allow Muslim girls to practice their dress code by allowing a little leniency in uniform rules in schools, similarly as schools allow sweaters in their schools in winter season.

Nawaz are you a member OF CFI. you comments sound like one. U seems to be more violence supporter than peace lover. Any parent will never support thier child to be a violence supporter. Regardless of religion every parent want the child to be like those nuns who is dedicated and wise hearted teaching every child in thier custody as a great human on this globe. Ask any child graduated from St.Agnes. they will proudly say I am a st.Agnes product. That is the beauty of that college. Only god can help u thinking. Hijab and burka just a piece of cloth. It is not mandatory for women to wear. It is imposed on them. Ask scholar in saudi they will tell u. I lived in middle east and I know ur books much better than u do. If u beleive in God do good to others and forget.about how ladies has to wear. Ladies clothing and fashion thier business but not.to impose on others properties of thier choice.

I am not a member of PFI and nor even blind supporter of any organization. I may support any individual issue of any random organization.

It is usual and very much normal that the students are proud of their college.

Where did I support violence as you claim? I had even suggested in my comments to avoid protests as much as possible even when they are peaceful.

Please don't say that Hijab is forced on women. There are so many converts who completely follow the rule of Hijab. Even if a say not to wear Hijab to my wife, I am sure that she will divorce me.

As you have respect for nuns, Muslims also have respect towards each women and particularly here the Muslim girls who want to practice their religion in all walks of life. Further, you have shown your dictatorial behavior in comments by instructing that those want practice their religion should stay at home. Please note that there may arise a situation wherein you may be forced by fake nationalists to move to a remote forest if you want to practice your religion as the similar statements are already issued that Islam and Christianity are alien to this nation.

A Muslim MUST be sharia compliant at all times and wearing hijab is a dress code per Sharia.

Sharia is not compatible with freedom and democracy. If people do not want to live in a free and democratic societies, and follow rules they should leave this institution and even leave these countries and go and live in those countries which are sharia compliant.

Why every time muslims have been targetted for deess code? If Some one who wants to wear head scarf whatz the harm for others. All the nuns are wearing head scarf first let them remove their headscarf and show the students. All the siks are allowed to wear head turban, Nuns are allowed to wear head scarf ,they can pratice their religion.. But not muslims why double standard?
Many years muslim girls are studying in Agnes college.. Why suddenly ban head scarf.
Management have every rights to have dress code .. Their college they are free to have any rukes but shoukd not be targetting one community. Muslims girls should not study thus type of colleges.. Let them promote colleges run by muslim community

Most if the muslims are libral.. They want their children to be mingle with other communities. So they put them in non muslim management institution. But these management are communal

If you cannot digest the country's law or institutions rules, simply avoid instead of creating a scene. Read well before immigrating to other countries or joining any institution their prevailing laws/rules. The best solution for your guys is to join your own community institutions and get one way education... Change for better, best of luck.

    Anamika,
who are you to decide or who the management of St.Agnes to decide against the set educational laws and guidelines by the education department.

if you say they are private institute and if you agree to thier terms and conditional which is against the constitution/educational policies of the Country then only join the institute or else rather bothering us go and look for other college.

Tomorrow a private bus owner will tell you, board my bus to Managlore to Udupi only if you remove the bindi, remove the duppatta or remove the turban or anything he may feel not good for him will you agree and go in another bus. No you will protest.

If a private hospital will say before entering my hspital you should not wear bindi, scarf or the turban or anything he may feel not good for him will you agree and go to another hospital. No you will not and you will protest against his decision.

I hope now its clear to you with above two examples. Respect all the religion and enjoy your rights under the constitution, otherwise, there is no difference between you and those who are not allowing the people of the country to eat, drink or live as we eat drink and live as provided by our constitution.

Education is all about uncovering, the head or heart. Those who can not run an educational institution effectively find fault with the prevailing system. If getting education is primary, the dress code could be over looked.Casting aspersions on an educational institution of long standing on flimsy ground is not acceptable. The minister must walk the talk, and convince the fringe to focus on women's education.

I clearly remember girls wearing full head scarf and also performing their prayers without a trouble all these previous years . Also hijab is not a choice for the Muslim females it's a part of their religion which is mandatory for them to follow . Yea true that it's a female campus , but there are male lecturers , staff , lab assistants all around the campus . What is so difficult to understand ?

In Islamic countries during Ramadan eating food in public is prohibited. Non Muslims do not even drink water out of respect to the host country. Nobody cries human rights violation.

Others may ask what is the problem in letting other people drink after all it is water. If done so, the essence of Ramadan itself is lost. Constitutional rights grants us freedom to exercise our rights in public places like cinemas, public transport etc.........but rights cannot conflict with rules of another person or institution. So if you come inside my house with your footwear and I don't mind it doesn't necessarily mean I can go inside your house if there is 'welcome without footwear board'

Your argument saying why St. Agnes College did not have these rues in previous years falls flat because as an infant you must have eaten a kind of food which you may not eat today because you have grown up (I hope) and evolved and so your tastes and needs are not of the baby. So also an institution evolves and grows. Changing rules and way of functioning is part of that growth. So if you want to be part of that institution you follow those rules, if not find another place of your choice and liking. I don't think St. Agnes College or any other premier Christian institution forces one to take admission, rather we see a beeline to take admission there. No one is against wearing what you wish to wear, but if you want to study here then better you follow the rules or get out. that's all

Tell me what is the meaning of true believer. Education is education, not religion unless it is religious education where religion comes. if they want to follow their religion, then why can't they go to the religious schools? Yo said " hijab is not a choice for the Muslim females it's a part of their religion which is mandatory for them to follow". I travelled very well around the world, not just middle east where you think foreign. Even prominent leaders of Muslim countries like Butto, Hasina and our own Shabana do not wear hijab. Do not try to fool, like the Feku group in India doing to Indian voters. I know few Muslims who never ever asked whether the food is halal (hotels in India) and when this guy comes to Singapore, the first thing he asks "is this halal" and then next week he flies (obviously with me) to London in Air France and eats whatever they serve without any question. if you can eat without any question, why all these drama in public?? Where it is written in your book that it is mandatory to wear hijab at school but then it is centuries ago. It also written that you do not take a photograph, do not shave, do not use perfumes, do not wear western outfits and many more things that I do not need to mention but the question is whether education is important for them or the religion, if it is religion, then they don't need education.

St. Agnes is a fantastic institution which has been providing equal and quality education to students from all walks of life. The institution is also well known in joining hands for the upliftment of the poor. I am witness to it.

I am sure every single parent know that their children are being educated the right way at St. Agnes and that is why they send their wards to that institution. Those who cannot stand the growth of the female child and the institution should just keep away and if they have any issues should approach the DC.

If majority of the enlightened Politicians, Educated and Broad minded Muslim men and women come out with bold statements and definite stand on these trivial issues , then nomadic elements of the community will disappear and muslim girls will certainly benefit which intrun empower the community and thereby force the boys of the community to embrace modern thoughts and education. No Religion asks its followers to go back and suppress women. Hope good sense prevail upon them.

Khader bhai you are right. It's the policy of the St.Agnes college, if you don't like it, take your child away. Take admission in your own religious college..wear and do whatever you like it..

That is how an elected minister in India should be, calling for harmony, not animosity.
